Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 24, 2026

Entoma ("the app") is an insect identification app for iOS, operated by Filip Kilter ("we"). This policy explains what data the app handles and why. The short version: no accounts, no ads, no sale of data, and your photos are used only to identify the insect in them.

Photos you scan

When you identify an insect, the photo you take or select is sent over an encrypted connection to our server (hosted on Cloudflare) and passed to an AI vision provider (OpenRouter) solely to produce the identification. Photos are processed transiently for this purpose and are not used to train models by us. The resulting identification (species name, not the photo) may be cached on our server so repeat lookups are faster.

Your collection

Sightings you save โ€” photos, species, dates, locations you choose to attach โ€” are stored locally on your device. We do not upload or keep your collection.

Identifiers

The app generates a random install identifier used to meter free scans, secure requests to our server (via Apple's App Attest), and manage your subscription. It is not linked to your name, email, or other personal identity, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Subscriptions

Purchases are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status; RevenueCat receives the anonymous install identifier and purchase receipts, per its privacy policy. We never see your payment details.

Analytics

The app does not include third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

Data retention & your rights

Server-side records are limited to the anonymous identifiers and subscription/metering state described above. Deleting the app removes your local collection. To ask about or request deletion of server-side data tied to your install, contact us and include the app version.

Children

Entoma is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and the effective date above.
